3 things you must know to getting started with Raspberry Pi high definition camera module
Hey hello everyone hopes you guys are doing well. The raspberry pi foundation recently launched its new camera module named raspberry pi high definition camera module. Which is a new player in their camera module lineup And today in this blog we will see some amazing facts and some amazing features that this camera module has? We will also see how can we use the raspberry pi high definition camera module with our Raspberry pi boards. So let’s start today’s lesson.
Key features of Raspberry pi high definition camera module
- This module have latest 12.3 MP IMX477R sensor form Sony.
- This module have the integrated IR cut filter. So it cannot be used as a night vision camera.
- This module supports the C- mount and CS- mount lenses out of the box.
- We can also use the big DSLR lenses which I explained below in this lesson.
- It comes with the same 200 mm ribbon cable like the older ones.
- This module also comes with inbuilt tripod mount which makes it very easy to use.
How we can use the raspberry pi high definition camera module with our Raspberry pi boards
We can use the new Carmen modules with all of our old raspberry pi boards having the CSI camera mount but for that, we have to recompile our kernels. And by executing simple codes we do that. Simple open the terminal and press these three lines of codes.
$sudo apt-get update
$sudo apt-get upgrade
After that we need to enable the camera from the Raspberry pi configurations and need to restart our Raspberry pi.
Now we can connect the ribbon cable to our Raspberry pi and start using the camera module.
How we can use the DSLR lenses with the raspberry pi high definition camera module
As we know out of the box the raspberry pi high definition camera module comes with the C- type adapter to connect with its lenses but we can definitely use the DSLR lenses which can change the quality and performance dramatically. And to do so we have to use the aftermarket adaptors which can convert the C or CS-mount adaptors to the EF or EOS mount adapters. That allows you to use every Professional lens with this camera module.
Does we use the camera module with the jetson nano developers kit
As we know that the Jetson nano also comes with the same CSI camera connector like raspberry pi and which can support the previous generation camera models. But in this case, the high-definition camera module does not compatible with that. Because it is not supported till now by the kernel of the Jetson nano developer kit. But as soon as any new update came up we will let you know and for that stay connected with us on Instagram for such cool updates.
So that it for today’s lesson. I hope now you guys can able to use your camera module in your projects. If you have any suggestions on questions than feel free to ask them in the comments below. And also don’t forget to share the project you build with this module with us. Thank you, see you again in a new lesson keep supporting and happy learning.
